Nearly 30 years helping little kids learn to talk

I’m Alexia Hyams, a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist in Kellyville. For almost three decades I’ve worked with children aged 0 to 7 on speech sounds, late talking, language and stuttering. No referral needed, and your child works with me every session, never a rotating junior.

You’ve noticed something, and you’re not sure whether to wait

Maybe your two-year-old isn’t using many words yet. Maybe people outside the family can’t quite understand your four-year-old. Maybe a stutter that comes and goes is starting to worry you. Most parents get told to "wait and see", but when the gap isn’t closing, waiting can feel harder than acting.

  • "Wait and see" hasn’t worked, and your child keeps getting older.
  • You’re genuinely not sure if it’s a real problem or you’re overreacting.
  • You want to help at home, but you don’t know where to start.

These are the exact things I help families sort out, and it usually starts with one phone call.

What I help with

Speech and language support for little kids

Every child is different, so we begin with an assessment and build from there. These are the areas I work in most.

Speech sounds

When a child drops, swaps or muddles their sounds and people struggle to understand what they’re saying.

Talking and language

Late talkers, and children whose understanding or sentences are behind where you’d expect for their age.

Stuttering

Assessment and therapy for young children who stutter, using the Lidcombe Program, a well-established early-intervention approach made for this age group.

Speech and language assessments

A clear, plain-English picture of where your child is up to and what would help. No referral needed to get started.

Nearly 30 years, one experienced pair of hands

I’m Alexia Hyams, and I’ve been a speech pathologist for almost 30 years. I work with children right across The Hills District from my practice in Kellyville. I hold a Bachelor of Applied Science in Speech Pathology from the University of Sydney, I’m a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist, and I’m a member of Speech Pathology Australia. Because it’s just me, your child sees the same familiar face every visit and you deal directly with the person doing the therapy. Sessions are practical and hands-on, built around what works for your child, and you’ll always go home with simple things to practise so the progress keeps going between visits.

How it works

Getting started is simpler than you think

01

Get in touch

Call or email me directly. We’ll talk through what you’ve noticed and whether an assessment is the right next step. No referral required.

02

Assessment

I take time to see how your child is communicating through play and conversation, then explain what I’ve found in plain language and what I’d suggest next.

03

Therapy and home practice

We work together in regular sessions, and you get simple strategies to use at home so your child keeps making progress between visits.

Questions

Common questions from parents

Still unsure about something? The quickest way to get a clear answer is a short phone call, no pressure.

Prefer to talk? 0421 834 460
Do I need a referral?

No. You can get in touch with me directly to book an assessment. Some families come on their own, others are pointed our way by a GP, paediatrician or daycare, and all of those are fine.

What ages do you work with?

Children aged 0 to 7. Early childhood is a wonderful time to support speech and language, and it’s the age range I focus on entirely.

Where are you based?

Kellyville, in The Hills District of Sydney, just off Memorial Avenue. Appointments are currently available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

My child stutters. Can you help?

Yes. I assess and treat stuttering in young children using the Lidcombe Program, a well-established early-intervention approach designed specifically for this age group.

What actually happens in an assessment?

I spend time seeing how your child communicates through play and conversation, then talk you through what I’ve found in plain English and what I’d suggest next. You’ll leave with a clear idea of where things are at.

How much does it cost?

Give me a call and I’ll talk you through session fees before you commit to anything, so there are no surprises.

Worried about your child’s talking? Let’s have a chat.

One phone call is often all it takes to know whether your little one needs a hand, and what to do next. No referral needed, and you’ll be talking straight to the person who’d be doing the therapy.
